mplayer and vlc seem to already have an available code base for this -- it would greatly improve using mac mini (or other FrontRow? device) as a media center workflow to have Perian handle this file type directly to avoid demux and mplex steps for each (which often fail due to bugs in those code bases, though playing in vlc and mplayer appear quite robust).
