Perian 1.1.4 On Dell Mini 9 / Vostro 90 Hackintosh (Atom Processor@1.6GHz) Breaks Flash Play (OSX 10.5.7)

Description

Flash plays excruciatingly low frame rates ranging from 1 / sec to a few frames every 20-30 seconds, and then getting completely bogged down, and not playing video, just audio. The CPU has sufficient power to play H264 videos well into the HD territory. With Perian 1.1.4 installed, once an attempt has been made to play flash video, (in firefox or safari, or even in VLC), video play becomes broken, even for H264. Removal of perian through its preference pane immediately restores full functionality to VLC, YouTube?, Break.com, etc.

PS. Another Hackintosh without an Atom processor shows none of the symptoms. It looks like it related to the processor, or the GMA950 video built into the Dell Mini. More likely to the Atom processor as Apple Mini also has a GMA950.
