no video on .mov playback,and OS status error-50 for .flv

running OS 10.5.8 on an intel based i-Mac,recently upgraded Quicktime version 7.6.9, when I open movies with .mov, Quicktime player opens and plays audio only,but no video. When I try to open movies with .flv , I get an error message"The movie could not be opened. The operation could not be completed:OS Status error-50." Is there anyway to fix this problem?
