#608 new defect

Consider importing SRT as subp tracks for AVFoundation

Description

I used to save all my movies to .mov files with QT7 and catalog them in iTunes.
After updating to Lion, the subtitles in all these movies no longer display when viewing them in iTunes.

These are all movies with an H.264 video track, an AC3 or DTS audio track and a "Text Subtitle" or "SSA Text Subtitle" track.

On a related note: the files in question will no longer play in QTX. QTX just says to use QT7. QT7 plays them fine (with subtitles).

Also, some movies just plain don't play anymore in iTunes.

  • Summary changed from Subtitles no longer work in iTunes under Lion to Consider importing SRT as subp tracks for AVFoundation

AV Foundation doesn't support multiple video tracks. There is no way we can support SSA with it. Plaintext subtitles are possible with some loss of text prettiness.
